Assistant Teacher/Education Support Professional Malden Out-of-School Time Program

 

General Description:   The Malden Out-of-School Time (MOST) Program provides afterschool, vacation, and summer programs for the Malden Public Schools. Our programs follow the MPS calendar and the afterschool programs operate from school day dismissal until 6:00pm including early release days.  Full day programs are offered during February and April school vacation weeks and during summer break.  It is our mission to provide high quality, affordable, Out-of-School Time care to Malden students in grades K through 6.

 

The Assistant Teacher/Paraprofessional works directly with students to ensure supervision, safety and participation of students in all aspects of the afterschool program. Programs are offered at Beebe School, Forestdale School, Linden STEAM Academy and Salemwood School.

 

School Year Responsibilities (Months of September – June)

Assisting and/or leading 

  • Engage lead small and large group activities
  • Supervise students during all aspects of the afterschool program including arrival, transitions, homework, snack, bathrooms, outdoor play, enrichment clubs and dismissal
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with MPS school day/afterschool policy
  • Implement student accommodations (if applicable)
  • Maintain classroom environment including set up, maintenance of supplies and clean up
  • Work collaboratively with afterschool and school day staff and outside providers
  • Build positive relationship with families
  • Participate in all staff training/orientation prior to start of program (August)
  • Available to participate in monthly site based staff meetings after program hours (6:00-7:00pm)
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

The essential functions of this position are performed indoors as well as outdoors.

During a typical workday, incumbent will:

  • Perform functions that will necessitate him/ her to have a strong overall level of strength and physical ability.
  • Be expected to exert an extensive and frequent level of talking; seeing; hearing; and walking;
  • Be expected to exert a moderate level of standing; sitting; walking; lifting; carrying; pushing/ pulling; bending; climbing and kneeling.

 

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Guidance, Human Services, Nursing, Psychology, Physical Education, Recreation, Child Psychology, the Arts, Social Work, Sociology, or Child Care preferred
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience working in with Pre-K and/or school-age children, social emotional learning, project based curriculum planning and/or special education
  • Ability to set clear limits and supervise Pre-K and/or school age students
  • Experience working with diverse learners and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds

Terms of Employment

  • K-6 Program hours at Beebe School, Forestdale School, Linden STEAM Academy, and Salemwood School are 2:00pm-5:30pm.
  • $18.50-$22.50 per hour
  • Required to obtain First Aid/CPR Training and complete Mandated Reporter Training within 60 days of hire
