MHS Malden Academics and Adventures Program (MAAP) Summer 2024 

8th to 9th grade Transition & Early College Prep Program

2 or 3 - Unit A faculty members with School Counselor certification

 

Dates: Planning: May 1st to July 5th, 2024

Program: In-person - Monday, July 8th to Thursday, July 18th, 2024

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills
  • Has demonstrable success as a high school counselor, preferably with Grade 9 student experience
  • Certified as a MA School Counselor Grades 5-12
  • Technological competence with Aspen and Naviance College/Career Readiness Software
  • Working knowledge of the MA State Higher Education system, particularly around Malden High School's Early College Program
  • Available to plan in June/July and attend all 8 mornings of the program in July, 2024

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and oversee the planning and execution of the Malden Adventures and Academics Program (MAAP) in July at Malden High School for up to 40 students.
  • Plan and lead college field trips to 2-3 area universities, as well as local field trips to civic organizations, and a community service project with the students
  • Lead the organization and implementation of developmentally appropriate academic and adventure activities that foster individual and collective growth and community involvement, to aid in the development of a positive sense of belonging & comfort within the MHS and wider Malden community.
  • In collaboration with MHS administration and guidance staff, facilitate communication with students and caregivers on attendance and progress of all students, as needed.
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate records of student program participation.
  • Use Naviance College/Career software and Google suite to encourage academic and career learning throughout the three weeks 
  • Educate students around the MA State College/University system, particularly as it relates to Malden's designated Early College Program
  • Other duties as assigned by the MHS building principal or Director of School Counseling

 

Stipend: $37/hour - 25 hours planning (June/July) and 25 hours/week for the three weeks of the

program

 

Reports directly to the Director of School Counseling & Testing

 

Funding Source: Early College Designation Grant
